Dog Training Maeshafn
1 to 1 obedience training
I have been training my own dogs in practical obedience for over 35 years. I am now sharing those years of experience and knowledge with other dog owners. With that knowledge they will be able to get the best out of their dogs and give them a more enriched life.

“What a great experience with Dog Training Maeshafn. Right from the start Dave has been fantastic. I took Reggie, my 20 month old cocker spaniel, to Dave as he had a few issues with obedience and behaviour. We went right back to basics, installed ground rules and boundaries for Reggie and worked on training him using positive reinforcement and rewards. And now 6 weeks later we have an obedient dog who's behaviour has also improved. I can not thank Dave enough! I would recommend him to everyone looking for an honest trainer. Thank you”!!!

“We’ve had an amazing experience with David at Dog Training Maeshafn. David’s expert knowledge, patience and persistence took Lizzie our Scottie puppy, from complete disregard for instructions, to a really good level of control. When we started out, we couldn’t have believed that Lizzie would reach a point where she would walk with us off lead. Early on, we all thought Lizzie would never retrieve and return a ball. Even David said, ‘well she’s not a retriever!’ Yet here we are, Lizzie confidently and consistently retrieves and loves it. We’ve learnt so much and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend DTM, David has transformed our very independent dog and Lizzie absolutely loves him”!
Prices
We only train on a one to one basis. There are no up front charges and payment can be made in cash on the day or bank transfer At the present time we are charging £20 per session per dog for training at Maeshafn. Some owners who come to us prefer a weekly recurring slot. For some, work/life balance will not permit this and prefer a more flexibIe arrangement. We can usually find another time and or date that might be suitable. We are more than happy to welcome more than I person who is connected with the dog to come along. Sometimes, whole families come along. We welcome and encourage this. Occasionally I am asked to travel to a different venue, I am happy to do this but the travel and mileage would attract an extra cost. Training sessions last for 50/60 minutes.
about me
My training is the product of the Nuneaton Dog training school. It has been operating since 1959. I joined in the 1970's when I enrolled with my newly acquired German Shepard. Week by week we were guided through various levels of obedience work. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there going through levels of training and watching my dog develop.
I moved to North Wales in the mid 1970's. Dogs have come and sadly gone since Nuneaton but every dog I have owned has been trained in the same way. I still get the same satisfaction from training and seeing my dogs develop.
One day, a couple of years ago I was in Meashafn woods with my dogs Taran and Jess when we met Rachel and her dog Willow. She complimented me on the behaviour of my dogs and wished her dog had more manners. Rachel asked me if I would consider obedience training with her and willow. This went on for a few weeks and I never thought too much about it until Lynne rang me up and said Rachel had told her about me. So I started training with Lynne and her border collie. And so it went on. I am now offering dog obedience training based on years of experience and dog ownership.
Owning a dog can be expensive, training need not.
What we do
Our aim is to train the trainers
We would invite you to come for an chat about what you want out of your dog and make an assessment of the dog’s current state of training. We would work up a training programme to help you achieve your aims step by step. We then use our model dogs Taran and Jess, to demonstrate the method of each step. We would get you to try the method with your dog. After this has been successfully accomplished we would ask you to continue the training in your own time for the following week. We would suggest three, ten minute sessions per day. To assist you we usually send out training notes by email to you on what we had covered that week. The following week we would have a mini assessment to correct any minor errors then move on to the next step. We would continue this pattern of training until you feel you have achieved you aims.
Our training tuition will cover the following subjects
Basic obedience
Basics plus:- for those who wish to
train to the next level.
